Why would someone get a joker tattoo?

Joker Tattoo Meanings – You may be asking yourself “what does a Joker tattoo symbolize?” It’s too simple to say he represents the villainous intentions inside all of us. A Joker tattoo does represent the darker side of life, but he also represents perseverance.

  • The Joker continues to come back as a favorite throughout the years;
  • He has been portrayed by at least 23 actors since the Batman TV show debuted in 1966;
  • It’s hard to believe we’ve seen our last Joker;
  • Joker tattoos can represent living with the darkness that’s always there, and acknowledging that as absurdly evil and chaotic a character he may be- it is equally absurd to have a moral code as strong as Batman’s, who demands perfection of himself;

They are two ends of the spectrum with Batman being chaotic good and The Joker as his chaotic evil. Is either side sustainable? Perhaps not. And that’s why we’re so compelled by these two characters, struggling with the same extreme emotions and convulsions on opposite ends of the spectrum.

What does a joker card tattoo mean?

Card Tattoos – Playing cards make for some great tattoos and can come in a variety of styles. They can represent one’s love and passion for gambling and can also symbolize a number of other things. Card tattoos are very popular among professional card players and anyone who enjoys games and gambling.

With all the different things you can do with them, it is easy to see why they are a popular tattoo choice. Before you choose to get a tattoo of playing cards, you need to make sure you understand how they work.

In your traditional deck, you have 52 cards. You actually have 54, which includes two Joker cards, but they are rarely used in most card games. Each card in the deck is part of a four-card set. Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2. Each card in the set will belong to one of four suits, including hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs.

There are a variety of different card hands that people often choose for their tattoos. One of the most popular hands is the royal flush, which includes the cards of the Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and 10. In order for this hand to be a royal flush, all of the cards have to be from the same suit.

In poker, the royal flush is the best hand you can have. This is one of the reasons that it is so popular. The royal flush hand symbolizes power, success, and winning. Another popular hand is four Aces. The Ace is the highest playing card in the entire deck. Four aces can be used to symbolize power, victory, or good luck.

Other popular hands include the full house and straight. Some people may only want to get a single card tattooed on them. There are several choices when it comes to that approach. The most popular is the Ace of Spades, which is the top card in most card games.

The Ace of Spades can symbolize achievement, power, winning, and leadership. There is also a darker side to the Ace of Spades. Those cards were often placed on the helmets of soldiers during the Vietnam War. Because of this, the Ace of Spades is often called the Death Card.

  1. Another popular choice is the Queen of Hearts;
  2. This tattoo is popular among women and can represent a few different things;
  3. The Queen of Hearts is often associated with Alice in Wonderland;
  4. If you have ever watched the movie, you may recall seeing this card;

Due to this, the Queen of Hearts tattoo can symbolize determination, perseverance, and the will to survive. Some people link the Queen of Hearts to love. Another popular option is the Joker. The Joker can be displayed in several different ways. Many people opt for getting the Batman character holding a Joker card. .

How much does a joker tattoo cost?

The Joker ditched his tats between Suicide Squad and the Snyder Cut—but at what cost? – The Joker (Jared Leto) in Suicide Squad , before he removed those face tattoos. Warner Bros. Pictures It’s not yet clear what the exact differences between 2017’s original release of Justice League and its upcoming director’s cut (aka “the Snyder Cut” ) will be, but the images and trailers released thus far make one thing clear: Jared Leto’s Joker is sporting a new look , one devoid of the much – ridiculed “Damaged” forehead tattoo he had in his previous appearance in 2016’s Suicide Squad.

  • Given the tattoo’s (literally) front-and-center position, this is a noticeable cosmetic change;
  • We were curious: Would the Joker really be willing to sit for that tattoo in the first place, let alone go through with lasering it off? To answer these questions and more, we spoke to tattoo artist L’ain Freefall ; Dr;

Roy G. Geronemus, director at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York; and Jeff Garnett, CEO of Clean Slate Laser Tattoo Removal Centers, via email about the process of getting such a tattoo and of getting it removed. Below, we share what we’ve learned.

The best of movies, TV, books, music, and more, delivered to your inbox three times a week. Would it hurt to get a forehead tattoo? Everyone is different in terms of what’s painful for them, and body parts vary when it comes to sensitivity.

That said, Freefall noted that the forehead, especially closer to the hairline, could be a sensitive spot, and that getting a tattoo on the crown of one’s head isn’t always the most comfortable experience. How much would getting a forehead tattoo cost? Studios and artists vary in cost, and they can charge differently depending on whether costs are calculated by an hourly rate, by piece, or even by set day rate.

However, said Freefall, “Most studios will charge more for hands, neck, and face, due to the high-risk factor. These are not areas all tattooers are comfortable tattooing, and that can be because of experience or just the unnecessary stress.

” She quoted $200 as her personal minimum charge for a facial tattoo, while Byrdie’s guide to tattoo costs cites $500 as a base estimate for “lip/face” tattoos. What’s most important to keep in mind is that the fact that one tattoo artist or studio may charge more than another doesn’t guarantee higher quality.

“Do yourself a favor and research,” Freefall advised. “Look through work and see what feels good for you. ” For the Joker’s “Damaged” tattoo in particular, Freefall wrote that she would likely charge closer to $300 for it, but that she would also advice against getting that ink in the first place.

“That tattoo looks like it’s just been slapped [on],” Freefall observed. “It could look like this if he had gone to any person with no knowledge or care. You have to consider the person’s hairline, shape of face etc. We’d have to discuss what the overall look he wants and I’d advise on options and explain why perhaps different placement and lettering style would look better.

  • As a tattooer/artist, we have a responsibility to make sure this tattoo will suit you and look good;
  • ” How long would the “Damaged” tattoo take to complete? Generally speaking, the smaller the tattoo, the less time it will take;

Were they not facial tattoos, Freefall estimated that the Joker’s tattoos wouldn’t take more than 40 minutes. Their location, and the extra care involved, would likely stretch out the process, though a good chunk of time would also likely be spent placing stencils “depending on the shape of the head/face.

” But, ultimately, the timing would depend on the artist and on the customer, taking their movement and stress into account. OK, now we know a little more about what getting a tattoo on your forehead takes.

What about getting it removed? Understanding how a tattoo gets removed involves understanding why tattoos last in the first place. “Tattoos are permanent because the ink particles are too large for your body to break down,” wrote Garnett. “Just like any other toxin, your body knows the ink isn’t supposed to be there and tries to break down the ink, it would just take more than a lifetime for your body to accomplish breaking the ink down on its own.

[…] We are just expediting this natural process. ” As for how that’s accomplished, according to New Look Laser College , “tattoo removal lasers produce pulses of light energy,” which penetrate the skin and are absorbed by the tattoo ink.

“The laser doesn’t remove the tattoo,” explained Garnett, noting that it is a common misconception that lasers burn tattoos off of the skin. “Rather, [the laser] breaks it into tiny particles that are small enough for the body’s immune system to remove naturally.

” This is all done after applying local anesthesia, Geronemus wrote, and different lasers would be employed depending on the color of ink being removed and the patient’s skin type. Does laser tattoo removal hurt? Luckily, as per Geronemus, it should not, with the local anesthetic going a long way toward minimizing discomfort.

Still, Garnett noted that laser tattoo removal treatments, though generally done very quickly, could be painful, comparing the sensation to “being snapped with a rubber band, bee stings, bacon splatter or pinches. ” Garnett also added that newer technology uses less heat, and that his company Clean Slate uses a cryotherapy machine that “blows freezing cold air onto your skin while lasering” as well as numbing creams and ice packs to help manage the pain.

How effective is it? Will the Joker ever be completely un-“Damaged”? In some cases, a slight shadow will remain, or the skin in the area where the tattoo was will be slightly lightened. In the case of the Joker’s tattoos, Geronemus wrote, they “will likely be removed cleanly and I would not expect residual pigment or any loss of pigmentation from the treatment itself.

” How long would the tattoo take to get rid of? Laser tattoo removal is conducted over sessions, rather than all at once. Because the Joker’s tattoos appear lighter in color, their removal would likely take three to five sessions, with each session lasting “just several minutes” given their small size.

  • According to Garnett, black lettering tattoos usually take five to eight sessions to remove;
  • For something so relatively small as the Joker’s tattoo, treatments would likely last just 30 seconds, but could only be done every 12 weeks, to avoid scarring;

And how much would removal cost? Just like the cost of getting a tattoo, the cost of getting one removed can vary based on everything from the tattoo’s size to the geographic location of the laser removal center. The Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York charges by treatment size, and so the Joker’s relatively small facial tattoos would cost $450–$600 per session, meaning that the Joker could be looking at a bill of anywhere between $1,350 to $3,000.

Clean Slate, meanwhile, charges $200–$600 per session depending on the size of the tattoo, but Garnett estimated that the Joker’s facial tattoos would be $400 per session, bringing the Clown Prince of Crime’s costs to $2,000–$3,200.

One last question: Why would the Joker want to get rid of his facial tattoos in the first place? Of course, we can’t speak for him, but Geronemus noted that patients’ reasons are myriad: “Professional reasons, new jobs, military requirements, new parents do not want their children to see the tattoos, children who get tattoos and their parents want them removed, names no longer in favor, traumatic tattoos (road rash) can be unsightly, bad artwork to name a few.

What does Joker symbolize?

Joker is shaping up to be the most controversial movie of the year. The film was received rapturously at the Venice Film Festival and broke the October opening weekend box-office record with an estimated $93. 5 million. But it also has some critics worried about how moviegoers will interpret the story of a man struggling with mental health issues who is pushed to violence — and at least one “credible” mass shooting threat was made, according to military officials.

  1. Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised that the latest version of the Joker is courting controversy;
  2. After all, he’s been doing so for decades;
  3. Creators and performers have pushed boundaries with the character, like when he committed a sexually violent act in the 1988 graphic novel The Killing Joke , or when Jared Leto got into character on the set of Suicide Squad by sending his cast mates used condoms;

Between these transgressive acts and his overall inclination toward nihilism and anarchy, the Joker has become a potent symbol on the internet for many people who feel isolated from or angry at society. Heath Ledger’s iconic take on the character in The Dark Knight (2008), in particular, has been memeified by anarchists, gamer-gaters, men’s rights activists and incels, his ethos of “let the world burn” inspiring trolls across social media.

  • The lawlessness of the internet makes it a place where any character or symbol can easily be spun out of control or coopted by people with ill intent;
  • Just look at Pepe the Frog , a goofy stoned cartoon amphibian that evolved into a symbol of hatred favored by the alt-right, despite the fact that its creator says he was meant to represent love;

Men’s Rights Activists radically misinterpreted The Matrix’s “red pill” (the pill that shows Neo the truth, that he lives in a manufactured Matrix) to describe the supposed “lies” of feminism. Since then, that movie’s writer-directors, Lana and Lilly Wachowski, have come out as trans women, and the red pill choice has commonly been read as a metaphor for the trans experience , to the chagrin of some transphobic men’s rights activists.

The Joker’s long history of being misinterpreted as a heroic figure, rather than a terrorist, has only added fuel to the debate over whether Joker ‘s particularly violent version of the character is worthy of the screen—especially given that director Todd Phillips tried to ground the movie in a reality that mirrors our own, rather than some artificial comic-book universe.

The discussion around Joker centers on whether the movie scrutinizes or empathizes with its protagonist, whose acts of violence are born at least in part from feelings of rejection by women in his life. That particular aspect of the Joker’s personality parallels news stories we’ve heard about mass shooters who begin their killing spree with an act of domestic violence.

  1. Some critics have defended the movie’s dive into the inner life of such a villain as a way to better understand what drives these people to violence;
  2. Others worry that the script does not do enough to make clear that the Joker’s acts of terrorism are evil, not heroic;

Phillips and star Joaquin Phoenix were asked multiple times, while doing press for the movie, whether they are concerned about the film’s potential to be misinterpreted or inspire violence. Phillips has rejected this notion, telling the Associated Press, “I just hope people see it and take it as a movie.

” He later doubled down, saying at the New York Film Festival that he thought it was not irresponsible, but rather ” very responsible ” to “take away the cartoon element of violence that we’ve become so immune to.

” Phoenix reportedly walked out of an interview when asked about the possibility that the film might inspire a violent act. But none of their public statements have directly addressed the Joker’s history as a toxic touchpoint, from pre-internet days to the present moment.

Are Joker tattoos popular?

Joker tattoos have been extremely popular for a long time and for a variety of reasons. Not only are there are a bunchy of different types of Joker tattoos, there are also meanings that work for a lot of people. On this page we will take a look at some of the reasons why Joker tattoos are so popular and you can decide for yourself if you should get one of these designs.

The Joker, or Jester, in a deck of playing cards is unique as it does not belong to any particular suit (spades, diamonds, hearts, clubs) like the other cards do. The tattoo version brings with it many meanings, but many people will get them because they also feel that they don’t belong to any one group, and that could be a good or a bad thing depending on the person.

If you feel that you are different in any way and are looking for a tattoo to show your pride in that, then definitely consider getting a Joker tattoo. The joker often represents a wild card in card games, allowing it to be manipulated by the player. Also known as the X-factor, the joker can completely change a hand for a person and is hard to plan for by the opposition.

  1. This is an excellent tattoo meaning for people who feel that they do bring something different and special to everything they do in their lives;
  2. You can get the full playing card with the joker symbol, or you might opt to go for just the joker face;

A joker playing card tattoo captures the image of the card itself while a “Joker” tattoo may incorporate the playing card as well as the Batman villain. DC Comic’s Batman has made the Joker character more sought-after as the villain’s malice has graduated with the series’ growing popularity.

  1. Even though the Joker tattoo has risen rapidly in popularity, it’s still quite easy to get a unique version of it since there is so much content to choose from and you can tweak the look any way you want to;

Because of the various Batman films that have been made, there are several versions of the Joker that can be chosen from. And this is actually important since each Joker is a bit different than the others. It also means that you are opting not only for the personality of the Joker you choose, but also the look.

Most people who do get the Joker tattoos based on the films will not only love the character, but also the actor who plays him. The original villain that appears in the comic books includes his signature neon green hair, white skin, pronounced nose and chin, along with his toothy, red-lipped grin.

He wears a purple suit with a green shirt beneath it and is portrayed very similarly in the first two films that were created, with addition of a purple velvet fedora in the 1989 version. Some people will get just Joker’s face in their tattoos, while others will take it a step further and get his entire body.

The Joker is a representation of insanity and chaos, a criminal terribly scarred by a vat of acid and determined to bring torment to the rest of the world. It’s important to know that since the Joker is such an iconic character, it doesn’t necessarily mean that people who have the tattoo will agree with the Joker’s actions.

Of course, some people who get one of these tats absolutely do want to tell the world that they love chaos in one way or another. The Joker is the trickster figure, essential to the progression of the story. People who are thought of by their friends and families as the jokester might be a perfect fit for a Joker tattoo.

It’s also great for magicians or anyone who loves to perform tricks on people. The more recent Batman films have provided a new image of The Joker, one that appears more menacing than the clownish playing card portrayal.

The more modern Joker from the 2008 film still features the white skin, green hair and red lips; however, his garish smile is the result of a long scar that runs from cheek to cheek. This detail absolutely stands out in that film, and it’s often the detail that stands out the most in modern Joker tattoos.

Additionally, the makeup on the newest Jokers (and Joker tattoos) is made obvious and often runs off of his face, creating an even more anarchic appearance. Even though it is meant to frighten and intimidate, there are plenty of people who simply think that the look made the Joker a bit cooler than he used to be in the older movies and television series.

The phrase “Why So Serious?” is often attached with this image, recalling his tagline from the film. It’s actually a great line to get tattooed on your skin since it not only references a classic moment, it also shows that you don’t take life too seriously.

You can get those words with another Joker tattoo or even by itself. Another version of the Joker is portrayed in a 2016 film that varies from the previous versions. An even more menacing Joker is created with the addition of full-body tattoos and silver-covered teeth behind the signature red lips.

That movie wasn’t quite as popular as the one made back in 2008 (nor was that version of Joker), but some folks do opt to get that face in their design simply because it is so crazy and chaotic. The Joker tattoo, regardless of the version you choose to get, is one of the few portrait tattoos that actually looks good distorted.

That means that you can get it pretty much anywhere on your body and in any style you want. One example of this is to get a forearm Joker tattoo so the face moves a bit depending on how your arm is hanging or if you’re leaning against something.

It also looks great in the middle of the back so the face gets scrunched or stretched. If you are thinking about getting one of the many Joker tattoos out there, then you will want to come up with some designs to choose from before you commit to anything.

  1. There’s just so much detail in the Joker character designs, and even the playing card version can have many looks;
  2. The trick is to think of the location on your body first and then come up with a Joker tattoo design that will look great there;

Have at least five or six designs drawn up before you choose so you can end up with the one you really want. Keep in mind that there is a big difference between getting the card version Joker tattoo and getting the type with the character. Not only do the character designs have more detail, they are often much more expensive than getting a Joker playing card tattoo.

Usually we recommend getting an outline or a silhouette if you want to save some money, but definitely don’t do that with Joker tattoos. You want all of that detail in there because that’s actually what makes them special.

If you can’t afford it now, it’s better to wait rather than settling for an inferior design. Most tattoo artists will have no problem doing a great job on a Joker playing card tattoo, but the detailed characters take a bit more skill. It’s a good idea to do your research online on all of the artists in your area before you walk into any shop.

Ideally you’ll find an artist who has done plenty of portrait tattoos in the past and who can work with any design you throw at them. If you take your time coming up with a meaningful and cool-looking Joker tattoo design, then chances are you will end up loving it.

Choose the meanings that you like, come up with a very nice design that you’ll always be proud of having, and then choose and artist who will be able to do it justice. .

What does a 7 and 2 tattoo mean?

I would like to expand Doomd’s answer. As they said, the combination 7-2 is the worst possible hand in poker. However, the interpretation of this is not vague but actually very precise, supported by another thing the character said in the movie: “[. ] I was the last person people would want to see in front of their door.

” As well as the fact that in his profession he seemed to mostly work completely alone. You can see clearly that the cards are facing away from the character in the tattoo (as in, how one would hold their cards in their hand), it is not the wearer who is holding the cards.

Instead the wearer is showing the opposite their own cards (which is why the position of the wrist makes sense here). So the interpretation of it is, imo, that if you see this tattoo you see a 7-2 in your hands, meaning that by meeting this person you just got dealt the worst possible hand by them.

The Joker is arguably the most famous villain in comic book history and following his introduction in 1940, he’s morphed from comical prankster to one of Batman’s most lethal foes.

While fans were skeptical when Heath Ledger was cast in the role for The Dark Knight , the actor would soon prove them wrong with his mesmerizing portrayal. Ledger tragically passed away before the movie’s release and would earn a posthumous Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his work.

  1. Fans are excited to see what Joaquin Phoenix does with the role in the standalone Joker movie, which promises to be a dark, grounded take on the villain;
  2. Responses to Jared Leto’s interpretation in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was famously divided;

From stories of his outlandish behavior during filming to his garish look, it’s fair to say Leto’s performance split opinions. That said, he definitely brought a new energy and look to the part, especially in regards to the many Joker tattoos. Ayer would state the Joker tattoos all tell a story and contain a number of easter eggs. Even the character’s contentious grill has a backstory, with Ben Affleck’s Batman having smashed the Joker’s teeth after he murdered Robin. Ayer and Leto drew inspiration from real-life drug lords for the character’s look and fascination with tattoos, so here’s the meaning behind some of the Joker’s most prominent ink.

“Damaged” Probably the most controversial tattoo for fans, the “Damaged” stamped on the Joker’s forehead is intended to be a personal message to Batman, blaming him for ruining his good looks after knowing out his teeth.

Ayer would later admit this particular tat was probably a mistake. HAHAHAHA The HAHAHA’s found on Joker’s chest and left arm is a trademark of the character to indicate he’s always laughing about something. He also spraypainted Robin’s suit in the same way after his murder to taunt Batman.

The J Initial Prior to the release of Suicide Squad , a popular fan theory stated Leto’s Joker was actually Jason Todd, and the “J” tat on his cheek was a nod to this. This has subsequently been proven false, however, and is likely just a vanity reference to his own name.

The Stabbed Bat Logo Found on Joker’s left arm is a Batman logo stabbed by a knife. This could either be a reference to Joker’s desire to kill the Caped Crusader or another nod to the death of Robin. Dead Robin A tattoo of a robin pierced with an arrow is found on the Joker’s right bicep, which is a pretty blunt taunt to Batman over killing Robin in the past.

  1. The Smiles Leto’s Joker has three tattoos of toothy smiles; one on his right forearm, his left hand, and his stomach;
  2. He uses the left-hand grin to hide his own smile during one scene, suggesting the tattoos are to hide his own insecurity over Batman smashing out his real teeth;

JOKER A pretty self-explanatory one, with this torso tattoo literally branding the character as the Joker. The villain possibly got this one to shed whoever he was in his former life. “God’s Only Child” This tattoo is found on Leto’s back and is either a not so subtle reference to the Joker seeing himself as special or a jab at the idea of religion.

“All In” One of the most distinctive Joker tattoos is of a deck of cards on his neck labeled “All In. ” Cards are obviously a big part of the Joker’s history and “All In” is probably a reference to how the villain lives his life.

He also has a tattoo of card suits on his knuckles. Jester The Jester tattoo on Joker’s chest in Suicide Squad could be a reference to his relationship with Harley Quinn. The fact the Jester is a skull suggests a darker meaning, however. Next: Why Gotham Season 4 Episode 11 Was Important For The Joker

Prey Movie Ending Explained (In Detail) About The Author Padraig Cotter (3730 Articles Published) It’s pronounced Paw-rick, not Pad-raig. Now that’s out of the way, a brief introduction. Padraig has been writing about film online since 2012, when a friend asked if he’d like to contribute the occasional review or feature to their site. A part-time hobby soon blossomed into a career when he discovered he really loved writing about movies, TV and video games – he even (arguably) had a little bit of talent for it.

He has written words for Den of Geek, Collider, The Irish Times and Screen Rant over the years, and can discuss anything from the MCU – where Hawkeye is clearly the best character – to the most obscure cult b-movie gem, and his hot takes often require heat resistant gloves to handle.

He’s super modern too, so his favorite movies include Jaws, Die Hard, The Thing, Ghostbusters and Batman. He can be found as i_Padds on Twitter making bad puns. More From Padraig Cotter.

What do jester tattoos mean?

Poking Fun – Evil jester tattoos are nearly as common as the standard jester. While every tattoo’s meaning is personal to the wearer, some state that they are triumphing over evil or poking fun at evil by dressing a sinister face in a jester’s hat.

What tattoos does the Joker have?

Jared Leto’s Joker tattoos proved to be a controversial element of his take on the character in Suicide Squad. Here’s the meaning behind them. Reactions to Jared Leto’s take on the Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad were decidedly mixed, but what do the character’s various tattoos really mean? The Joker is arguably the most famous villain in comic book history and following his introduction in 1940, he’s morphed from comical prankster to one of Batman’s most lethal foes.

  • Where Batman wants to bring order and justice to Gotham City, the Joker thrives on chaos and destruction;
  • The Joker has been memorably brought to life in a number of mediums;
  • Jack Nicholson’s Joker in Tim Burton’s Batman is one of the most iconic, but Mark Hamill’s portrayal in Batman: The Animated Series to video games like Batman: Arkham Knight is also considered definitive;

Fans are excited to see what Joaquin Phoenix does with the role in the standalone Joker movie, which promises to be a dark, grounded take on the villain. Responses to Jared Leto’s interpretation in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was famously divided.

  1. “Damaged” Probably the most controversial tattoo for fans, the “Damaged” stamped on the Joker’s forehead is intended to be a personal message to Batman, blaming him for ruining his good looks after knowing out his teeth;

The Smiles Leto’s Joker has three tattoos of toothy smiles; one on his right forearm, his left hand, and his stomach. He uses the left-hand grin to hide his own smile during one scene, suggesting the tattoos are to hide his own insecurity over Batman smashing out his real teeth.
