Maybe show some pictures of work done for context on this site. this is all subjective bullshit. a guy says he payed $650 for a half-sleeve lol! I’ll bet it’s awesome. cheap-minded people (and this is directed to a few of you who have posted) garner cheap things, don’t expect it to be anything more and hopefully, nothing less. |

It’s outlined black and has green, yellow, pinkish-red, and blue. I need an estimate on what the actual price will be, but I’m hoping no more than $400 |

My rose tattoo is approximately 4. 5″ x 4. 5″. It took about three hours the roses color of the leaves are black and white. It is a mix between classic Americana and coloring book style. It took about three hours and a tattoo artist uses A lining middle for all black and color portions. My tattoo was a walk in appointment at a shop that requires you to bring your own line art and does not do custom designs. |

It’s the worst tattoo ever. And as well my first. I regret ever going there even he did have a great portfolio he didn’t fu*king care. It’s very blotchy, out of shape. And very dark. |

Absolutely perfect. He took his time really well and it was my first tattoo and it was on my shoulder blade and it only burned. |

I got the last two lines of the poem “Invictus” on my upper left thigh. It says “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul”. It was $100, and I gave a $20 tip |

I had the concept that I wanted 6 symbols to reflect the blind men and the elephant parable. The artist did the design and color, aesthetic. nailed it. He charged 120 per hour, I’m not sure how he calculated when it began, like design, when he stenciled, when he put ink to skin. Actual inking was probably only and hour, maybe a little more. It is a little nerve racking to hear how much it costs after it’s done. |

I went to two different places that were known for being less expensive (but well reviewed) and was quoted 80$. I read after I got it that tattoos are something that are meant to be tipped so I went back and tipped 15. My first tattoo, I made a section not heal so good by putting a bra on too soon. The rest of it is kind of spotty and I’m not sure how it’s my fault but I know it is. Hope to get a touch up when I’m back in town (hopefully for free?) |

I want my first tattoo on my ribs and its a quote. Pretty small and simple. I don’t know how much it’ll cost though. |

Best decision ever. It’s absolutely gorgeous and I love it. |

It’s a side veiw of a humming bird. It didn’t hurt at all,because it was on my dominant arm and almost on my sholder. It’s about 4 inches wide and 4 inches long. Obscura in janesville is the place to go. I’m going to my artist in a few months for a forearm tattoo. |

Sleep On The Opposite Side Of The Tattoo – This one seems obvious. But many people who toss and turn may not take this advice seriously and may still sleep on the side where they were inked. It’d be the best to sleep on the side. The opposite side of where you tattooed yourself.
- If you have a back tattoo, however, or you tattooed the rear side of your arm or leg, it’d be best to sleep on your stomach or side;
- As most people ink the front part of their body, they should sleep on their back, so that they wouldn’t squish their wound, and potentially lead to bleeding or infection;
Editor’s notes : Many people think that spending one night restricted on where you sleep is enough. Still, tattoo aftercare and healing take more time than just one night. It’d be the best to refrain from sleeping on the tattooed side for at least 7 nights.
Do you tip a tattoo artist?
How Much to Tip – If you decide to tip, the next step is to calculate exactly how much to add to the final tattoo price. The general consensus in the tattoo community is that 20 percent is the typical amount to tip — just like at a restaurant or a hair salon.
However, consider this number a baseline, as some tattoos require more or less work than others. Just like there is no one tattoo experience or price, there’s no one-size-fits-all tipping option. “The more you spend on the tattoo, the more you should tip, as they are putting more work into the piece,” says Fiore.
Weed, however, notes that there is one thing that every tattoo experience needs to have to warrant a tip: It needs to be great. Your artist is putting time into the behind-the-scenes of your tattoo, but it’s also their responsibility to ensure you’re comfortable and having a good time while it’s happening.

How fast do tattoos fade?
What to Do When You Notice Fading – If you’ve followed aftercare instructions and you notice concerning fading (beyond what we discussed in the introduction) within 6-months then go see the tattooist right away. It may be the result of shoddy work, and they may need to do a touch-up for you.
Potential for this concern can easily be mitigated by carefully vetting a tattoo parlor before booking an appointment. Quality work won’t fade so quickly, even when you slip-up (somewhat) on aftercare within the first 6-months.
Otherwise, any fading you experience will occur after years of living your life (taking sunny vacations, etc). At this point you can simply decide when it’s time to bring some life back to the tattoo. If the original artist is still available, then they will be more than happy to perform the touch-up at their hourly rate. .

Is a 3 hour tattoo session long?
Session Length – Another determining factor in how long a tattoo will take is session length. Longer sessions can mean fewer visits to complete a tattoo. With an expected 3 weeks between sessions, this can mean a huge difference in how long your tattoo takes.
That being said, it is not necessarily the best idea to book a long session right out of the gate. If you are getting your first tattoo, 3-5 hours is probably as long as you should go. Everybody has a different pain tolerance for tattoos, and on your first visit, you won’t know how long you can handle.
After the first session, you may decide you are able to handle longer tattoo sessions. If not, that’s okay. Your tattoo may take a little longer to complete. But it is more important to get it right, have it heal, and end up with a tattoo you love. The longest tattoo session ever was 52 hours and 56 minutes.
How big of a tattoo can you get in 5 hours?
A medium sized tattoo the size of your palm or hand could take from around 2-3 hours to more than 5 hours to tattoo.

For a complete back piece, the time could range between 20 to 30 hours depending on the design, but this is not a thing you do often. If you’re not in the market for having your whole back inked, something smaller takes much less time. A standard full-back tattoo cost to cover the entire back with a lot of detail work and shading will take around 20 – 30 hours of work and cost from $2,000 to $5,000.
